Raymond Cline Barringer

Raymond Cline Barringer, 92, aka R.C., of Newport News, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2021.  R.C. was known for his great sense of humor, his gift for telling vivid stories, and his volunteer work with animals. The following was written by R.C. with minor edits.

Chief Barringer departed on his final deployment sailing through the sea of tranquility to his new port to be with his Heavenly Father. Born Raymond Cline Barringer on Nov 11, 1928, in Kannapolis, NC. The husband of the late Mildred (Mickey) Tucker Barringer and father of his recently deceased daughter, Lorna Kay Barringer.  He is survived by his son, David, and wife, Barbara Barringer of York County; his granddaughter, Lorna Renee Auby; grandson, Brian Barringer, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Chief Barringer retired from the US Navy and was a Navy Recruiter on the peninsula. R.C. was a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Back Door and the Animal Aid Society in Hampton. R.C. was a member of Menchville Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held for R.C. and Lorna Barringer at The Peninsula Memorial Park on March 5, 2021, at 1:00 pm.  Facial masks and social distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, it was the wish of R.C. to take your family or a friend out to dinner and think of him. God Bless you all!
