Nolan Grayson Reid, Jr.

Nolan Grayson Reid, Jr., 81, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. He was a native of Albany, Georgia, and had been a resident of Newport News, Virginia for over 50 years. Nolan graduated from Denton High School in Denton, North Carolina, and attended and graduated from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Nolan started his work career at Newport News Shipbuilding as a chemist, then moved to BASF as a Sales Manager, and ended his working career with Franklin Adhesives & Polymers, retiring as the North American Sales Manager.

Nolan had his pilot’s license and loved flying, sailing, and golfing. Nolan was an avid amateur radio enthusiast. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His two granddaughters were the apple of his eye and called him “Poppy”.

His parents, Nolan G. Reid, Sr., and Nora Jones Reid preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara H. Reid; two sons, Nolan G. Reid, III (Laura) and Jon W. Reid (Shanna); two granddaughters, Ginny and Ailyn; two sisters Mary Anne Reid and Sidney Reid; and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, 38 Hoopes Rd, Newport News, VA 23602. Memorial donations may be made in Nolan’s name to the church. Floral arrangements may be delivered directly to the church.

    I am so very sorry to read this. My deepest condolences to you all. We loved having you all as childhood neighbors in Beechwood, my high school biology teacher, friends, and we all have lots of wonderful memories!     Nolan and Jon….I have very fond memories of my interactions with your father as we were all “trying to find our way through our youth.” My thoughts and prayers to the entire family.
