It Takes a Family to Comfort a Family
On September 15, 2021, Martha Faulk passed away peacefully in her sleep. Born on November 15, 1936, with Cerebral Palsy, she was a woman who faced life with strong will and determination. What would have broken any other person, she faced with resilience and perseverance.
She grew up the daughter of a farmer and a school teacher in Rocky Mount, NC. On the family farm, she was surrounded by cousins who felt more like sisters and brothers than cousins. Martha had a quick sense of humor and never had an unkind word. This gentle nature and love for children served her well as an elementary school teacher. Martha graduated from Woman’s College of NC, now known as UNC Greensboro, where she met her lifelong friend Dolores and then later Sadie. Being a teacher also allowed her time in the summer for her other passions which included traveling, spending time at the beach, playing cards with friends, and being with family.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Preston Faulk and her parents, George and Linda Bradley. She is survived by her sister, Jane Bradley; children Stacy Minnigerode (Fred), Brad Faulk (Crystal), Preston McCoy Julian (Ebbie); grandchildren Catherine Elizabeth Faulk, Charles Minnigerode, Katelyn McKay, (Jim), George Minnigerode, Lauren Faulk, Amanda Julian; a great-grandchild Matilda McKay; brother-in-law Barney Faulk (Mary); and several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
A friends and family visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 2 pm-4 pm at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings. A Celebration of Life is scheduled at a later date in North Carolina.
They broke the mold when they made Martha Faulk and thank God because the world was not ready for two of her. She is looking down in heaven on this obituary and saying, now be nice.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
