Lawrence Steven Masters

Lawrence Stephen Masters, 62, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.  He was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a resident of Newport News for 28 years.  Steve worked as a foreman with Newport News Shipbuilding for 42 years.    He was of the Catholic faith.  

Steve loved to spend time with his friends, especially playing darts.  He was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Reds.  Steve had a helper soul and would help anyone and he was fiercely devoted to his family, especially his two grandchildren.  

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Don F. and Mary C. Masters, and his sister, Donna J. Neild. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna J. Masters; daughter, Sarah Hoefflin (Gregory); grandchildren, Graysen Hoefflin and Elijah Stephen Hoefflin; sisters, Barbara Inman (Terry), Cathy Masters, Mona Lankford, Shelly Masters, Lisa Masters and Becky Gloss (Marc); brothers, Robert Masters (Trish) and Joe Masters (Kristie); and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home.  A Mass of the Resurrection memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with burial to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

There will be a gathering at the Masters’ family home in Newport News immediately following the burial.
