Janet T. Nichols, 83, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at her home.  She was a native of Mountcalm, West Virginia, and had been a resident of Newport News for over 60 years.  Janet worked as a sales representative for wholesale foods and retired from Saville Foods after 20 years of service.  

Janet was of the Baptist faith and loved to work in the yard, read, do all kinds of puzzles, and was an avid Scrabble player.  She loved to fish and loved NASCAR.  Janet was an around fun person and she was a devoted wife, mother, and NaNa to her grandchildren.  

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lee and Virginia Boyle Tyree, and her siblings.  She is survived by her husband, Fred Nichols; daughter, Kristi Marks; sons, Wendell Parker and Kevin Parker (Eileen); two granddaughters, Kimberly Green (William) and Stephanie Parker; three great-grandchildren, Amariah, Brooklynn, and Kevin; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 21 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings. A private interment will take place at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, September 28.
