James R. “Jim” Williams

James R. “Jim” Williams, 88, of Newport News, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022.  He was a native of Butlerville, Arkansas, and had been a resident of Newport News for the past 11 years.    Jim retired from the U.S. Air Force after 31 years of service as a Chief Master Sergeant.  After retirement, he worked as an accountant for civil services for 10 years.  Jim was a member of the Real World Worship Center.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Leo Williams and Nora Mae Williams; brothers, Leslie Leo Williams, Jr. and Donald Earl Williams; and brother-in-law, Purvis Dale Farris.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Jean Williams; three sons, Michael Ray Williams (Richard), James Leslie Williams (Laurie) and Jeffrey Allen Williams (Heather); five grandchildren, Margaret Taylor Hatfield (Nate), Grace Caroline Johnson (Tyler), Tess Emily Williams, Conner James Williams (Sarah), and Haley Marie Steel (Anthony); two great-grandchildren, Evangeline Mary Lyn Williams and Ashby James Johnson and one more on the way; four sisters, Mary Lee Farris, Wanda Sue Stewart (Dennis), Dorothy Pearl Flood, and Rebecca Ann Cooper (Clinton); sister-in-law, Marsha Williams (Donald); and countless nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. at All Generations Church, with Pastor Duane Swanson officiating.  The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings.   Interment will be held on Thursday, January 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
