Herbert Lee Wills

Herbert Lee Wills, 84, of Yorktown, VA, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2021. He was born in Richland, Georgia on February 28, 1937 and was a graduate of Russell County High School in Hurtsboro, Alabama. Herb served faithfully and honorably in the U. S. Air Force for 26 years as Security Police for his first 2 enlistments, then moved to Administrative Support where he served for the remainder of his career. His assignments included Warner Robins, GA, where his daughter was born, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, Goldsboro, NC, Montgomery, AL, the Seychelles Islands, and back to Maxwell-Gunter in Montgomery where he finished his career as NCOIC of the War College and NCOIC of the Gunter Military Entrance Processing Station.

After Herb’s retirement, he enjoyed an active life in Alabama where he worked for Ray Scott (of Bassmasters) for about 8 years. He was a loving family man and father who always put family first in all he did. He always enjoyed being with family and friends. In 2011 he moved to Virginia to be nearer his daughter and son-in-law where he spent the remainder of his days.

Herb was married to the first love of his life, Ruth Howell Wills, the mother of his daughter, for almost 26 years until her untimely death in 1984. He was blessed to find love again and was preceded in death by his second wife, Laura Wills, in 1995. Herb was also preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Doris Wills; brothers, William and Milford Wills; and mother-in-law, Berta Green.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Wills Brown; son-in-law, Robert David Brown; grandson, Chris Brown; great-grandson, Charlie Brown; sister-in-law, Barbara Wills Chambliss (William); nieces, Barbara Ann Wills Self (Gregg) and Sandra Wills Davis (Al); and best friend, Larry Perkins.

A celebration of life is being scheduled for a later date in Alabama.
