Ernest “Ernie” M. Mejia

Ernest “Ernie” M. Mejia, 92, passed away at his home on March 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Dagupan, Philippines and was a Peninsula resident since 1945.  Ernie retired from the U.S. Navy.  In 1984, he retired after 24 years as a civil servant at Fort Eustis in the payroll department.  He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Ernie is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Floretta “Flo” Mejia; son, Ronnie Mejia (Sandy); daughter, Dee Ryan (Pat); grandchildren, Michelle, Shannon, Ronnie, Jenna, and Patrick; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Taylor, Delaney, Owen, and Brody; brother-in-law, Frankie Lascola (Lorena); nieces, Carol Reyes (Robert) and Tina Sinnen (Matt); and many other relatives and friends.

The family invites guests to pay their respects from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., in Newport News. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 22, at the funeral home. Guests are invited to participate in the service through live streaming (www.peninsulafuneralhome.com/video). Interment will be immediately following the service at Peninsula Memorial Park.  Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
