Donald Vernon Storer

Donald Vernon Storer, 77, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.  He was a native of Syracuse, New York, and a long-time resident of Newport News. He served in the Armed Forces.  After his service, Donald retired from Harnett County as a police officer with 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Ivy Farms Church of The Brethren of Newport News where he ran a USDA food distribution program out of the church.   He was a member of the Peninsula Chapter of The National Federation of the Blind of Virginia.

Donald had a love of horses and following the NC State college basketball team.

Donald was preceded in death by his son, Brian Storer, and sister, Helen Rathburn.  He is survived by his companion Lois Fritz; three sons, Jamie Storer (Megan), Jon Storer (Michelle), and Michael Storer (Barbara); two daughters, Suzanne Kracke (Rob) and Karen “Kerley” Van Etten (Danny); grandson Parker Kerley and granddaughter Kaitlyn Kracke (Stephen); great-grandson Grayson Showman; four sisters, Shirley Trubia, Bernice “Bonnie” Duck (Frank),  Lois “Lori” Storer and Cindy Sullivan (Mike); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
