Donald Gene Brandon

Donald Gene Brandon passed away, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his home, in Newport News, VA on August 11th, 2022. Donald was born on February 5th, 1964 in Hampton, VA and shortly after spent his childhood in Dinwiddie, VA. Donald belonged to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and the Moose Lodge #1711. 

Donald was a known self-employed carpenter, a dog-lover, and a music enthusiast. He  enjoyed family time that was full of love and laughter, being outdoors, and embracing the moment. He had a smile that would brighten your day, and a heart of gold. 

Donald is survived by his spouse, Laura Smith; children Esther Brandon, Christopher Shields, and step-children Lauryn Carter, Alyssa Auche, and Robbie Smith; siblings Sandra Meeks, Donna Hartless, Paula Branch, Kathie Ray, Robert Hazlett and Denise Halka; his Aunt Frances Tolleson; multiple grandchildren that called him “Peepaw;” and multiple nieces and nephews that called him “Uncle Donnie”. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Brandon, Sr.; mother Mary Nell Brandon Branch; and sisters Theresa Fitts, Linda Kearney, and Robin Brandon.  

A celebration of life and benefit will be hosted by friends and family in the near future.

    we knew this young man as a very joyful happy young fellow Indeed he did love 💕 his family and wasn’t afraid to show it where ever he was .My husband lost quit anti of weight!and we gave Donnie a lot of his shirts and he was sooo appreciative of the shirts .And ever time we’d see him he’d say to us do I look like Bob?And he’d just laugh his jovial laugh he had .We love 💕 him and he will definitely be missed by all who had the great pleasure to know him.God bless Laura and his family Lov&prayers

    I love you Uncle Donnie. I wish I would’ve gotten to meet you. However I’m glad my mom did and I hope you were greeted by her in the afterlife. Please tell her to come visit me.
