Dana L. Watts “Baldy”

Dana L. Watts “Baldy” was born on November 18, 1947, in Kannapolis, NC to the late Leroy Watts and Margaret Colleen Overcash. He departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2022, after a long battle with dementia, which took his body but left his loving, one-of-a-kind spirit with us for eternity.

Dana was a servant to many people in his life, which began with a stint in the United States Marine Corps for four years during the Vietnam war, where he was honorably discharged. As he began to grow and expand after the Marines, he would then go on to tackle another big journey as a welder at Newport News Shipbuilding for 20 years. Finishing out his servant years in the workforce, he worked with Hall Ford as a delivery driver. He would say, the most fulfilling of all his various roles as a servant was his being a true servant to all the people he loved. In particular, his mother whom he took care of for over 20 years until she moved on to glory.

Dana made certain he was first in line to serve and help anyone that needed it for whatever reason and was always there for us to lean on for emotional support and advice on this crazy thing called Life. Dana was always dependable for any task at hand, no matter the difficulty.

The comedic mastermind that he was, Dana had an old soul but was a child at heart, who could make as little as a sound…and fill an entire room with laughter.

Dana loved many things including painting, playing the drums, rock and roll music, watching TV and movies, and his Dallas Cowboys. But behind all of these things, he loved one thing more than anything else…and that was his mother, father, sister, and his entire family.

Preceding him in death were his mother and father. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Cordle; son Danny lee Watts; daughter Rebecca Ann Watts; grandchildren Conner Brody and Autymn; niece Renee and husband Hartley and their six children; nephews, John and his wife Michelle and Christopher and his daughter.

As the family is grieving his loss on this earth, we know without a shadow of a doubt that he is rejoicing with his mother and father once again and with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ beyond Heaven’s Doors.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Dana will be laid to rest, after the service, near his father and mother. He will be in our hearts and minds forever.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
