Brenda Kaye Smith

Brenda Kaye Smith, 65, of Newport News passed away Saturday, October 15,
2022. She loved spending time with friends and family, had a passion for kids, and was a master shipbuilder at Newport News Shipbuilding. 

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Smith; father, Robert Smith; sisters, Betty Poston, Linda Branton; and brothers, Bobby Smith, Mickey Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Jessica Hunter and her husband Eric; brother, Tony Smith and his wife, Tedi; grandchildren, Brittney Michie, Troy Gibbons Jr and his fiancé Samantha Boswell; great-grandchildren, William Michie Jr, Mason Michie, and Easton Michie; nieces and nephews Jennifer and Stephen Humphries, Michelle and Albert Cannon, Kristofer Warren, Ryan and Kelly Smith, Ashlee and Teddy Heely, April Smith and (Justin Rosner), Kirsty and  Joe Civitarese; and many great-grand nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, with  her memorial service being held at 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

    My prayers go out to the family of this beloved woman she was the greatest person on Earth she would do anything for you Jessica Brittany Troy I’m so sorry to hear about Mom’s passing known as Gaga but heaven has gained a beautiful angel I know she will be missed and this breaks my heart my love and prayers are with you and the family and this time of need in the name of the father the son the holy Ghost

    I never got to know Brenda, but I truly admired her for her complete devotion to her great-grandsons; Willy, Mason, and Easton. Even when Brenda was in pain, she was there for her boys. She was a true hero.
