Brenda Johnson passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She was born in Pungo, VA on January 1, 1959. Her family was always a high priority to Brenda and she was the glue that held everyone together.

Those who knew Brenda remember her immense giving spirit and heart. Anyone that she knew who was in need of support would look up to find Brenda bringing them homemade food, a gift, a smile, and her incredible caring spirit. Her laugh could light up the room and the gloomiest of days. She especially loved fishing and gardening. Brenda was the living example of empathy. She often knew what you needed before you knew it yourself. She was helpful to friends who were sick, to those who were in need, and to those who were grieving or just sad. Brenda was also a great storyteller. She had the gift of finding humor and quirkiness in everyday life and could help you see that humor through her stories as well. She was a beacon of practicality, fun, light, and hope to those around her.

Brenda loved her husband, her home, and her pets. She was always finding strays (both people and animals) that needed her – if only for a time. She healed hurts and nurtured us all.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother and father, (Roy Dozier and Lillie Mae Ewell Dozier) and her siblings Joyce Anne Ewell Midget, Sammy Dudley, and Dunny Dudley. She is survived by her devoted husband and partner of 32 years, Rockey Johnson; siblings, Virginia Ann Ewell (Frank), Rosie Mae Dozier, Danny Baum (Vivien), Carolyn Landers (John), Edward Baum, and Elizabeth Fae Ewell; and her step-mother Pearl Dozier. She was a constant presence in the lives of her many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Peninsula Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings.
