Thurman “Ray” Owens

Thurman “Ray” Owens, 69 of Hampton, Virginia passed away, December 6, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family.

Ray was born in Pitt County, North Carolina on November 30, 1956 to the late Thurman and Louise Owens. Early in life Ray and his family moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he grew roots and raised his family. A 2009 graduate of Hampton City Schools, and retired trim carpenter. Ray spent his years wearing many different hats; son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, coach, boss, friend but his favorite was Pop-Pop. He enjoyed spending his winters in the woods with some of his favorite people making memories at Buck Run Hunt Club, and most of all he LOVED watching his grand babies play ball, dance, and most recently wheelchair-walker tag with Roman.

A loving husband, daddy, and Pop-Pop, Ray is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susie Lucido Owens, Children; Amber Hatcher (Brian), Joseph Owens (Jennifer), Ashleigh Owens (Chris), Grandchildren; Ryan, Braxton, Marley, Raelynn, Elijah, and Roman. Sisters; Frances Wagner (Rich), and Carol Tatem, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and bonus kids. He was preceded into death by his parents Thurman and Louise Owens.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at First Friends Church, 1062 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, VA from 11 am to 12 pm with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following.

Memorial contributions can be made in Ray’s name to the Buck Run Hunt Club for improvements and continued memories.
