It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of R. Michael Campbell, Jr., who departed this life on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on January 3, 1942, in Richmond, Virginia, Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose impact on those around him will be cherished forever.
Michael was the beloved son of Robert Michael Campbell, Sr. and Lucille Mildred Duffy Campbell. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Campbell. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, survived by his devoted wife, Elaine Campbell, and his two beloved daughters, Becky Sykes (D.J.) and Robyn Forrest (Warren). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Jake (Lexi) and Justin O’Bryan; Laura, Rachel, and Emily Giles; and Caiden Forrest, Kiersten Willsie (Jordan), and Ashland Rambo (Jarod). Michael also had a special bond with Thomas Campbell, who was like a brother to him, and Josh Reeves, who he cherished like a grandson.
Michael dedicated over forty years of his life to his work as an accountant at Lockwood Brothers Inc., from which he retired. His commitment and diligence were evident in every task he undertook, and he was respected by his colleagues and clients alike.
In addition to his professional life, Michael was a dedicated community member. He held a Life Membership to The Sons of Confederacy as well the local chapter, Magruder-Ewell Camp #99 and devoted much of his time coaching and managing teams in the Warwick Little League. His passion for youth sports and community engagement enriched the lives of many young players, fostering a love for teamwork and sportsmanship.
Michael had a variety of hobbies that illustrated his creative spirit and love for craft. He enjoyed woodworking, creating beautiful lamps, tables, and bookcases that now serve as lasting memories in the homes of his family and friends. His love for sports was evident; he was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals, the Green Bay Packers, and the New York Giants, often sharing game days filled with enthusiasm and camaraderie with those he loved.
The family will hold a funeral service on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home with a visitation starting an hour prior at 1:00 p.m., where friends, family, and the community are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable life of R. Michael Campbell, Jr.
