After a long battle with agent orange COPD, United States Navy retired CWO4 Preston Lee Snodgrass passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 79 years old. Born in Brownwood, Texas on March 20, 1945, his heart remained a Texan even though he had not lived there for over 50 years.
A Navy veteran, he retired after 28 1/2 years active duty during which he served in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. Lee received multiple commendations for his long and decorated career. He loved his Navy family and friends, especially those he served with.
He was a mason and member of the VFW and Fleet Reserve Association. The Fleet held a special place in his heart as that is where he met his wife, Nancy. They shared a loving relationship for 33+ years.
Lee was a man of immense wisdom, mechanical skills, and was very humorous. He loved his sweets, gardening, helping others, and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Vernon and Annie Jewel Snodgrass, and six of his seven siblings: three brothers, Owen Douglass Snodgrass, Charles Vernon Snodgrass, Arthur Jim Snodgrass; and three sisters, Emily Joy, Garlean Easterly, and Elsie Barton.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Dooley Snodgrass; son, Randy Snodgrass and wife, Bonnie; daughter, Pamela Dalsgaard and husband, Anders; stepson, Troy Dye and wife, Julie; four grandchildren, Bradd Snodgrass, Aiden Snodgrass, Colby Dye, and Hannah Dye; his sister, Barbara Jean Eoff; and numerous family members in Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19th at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Gary Sinese Foundation, P.O. Box 40726, Nashville, TN 37204, https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/.
Lee dedicated his life to his loved ones and will be missed by many.
