Patricia Anne Higgins

Patricia Anne Higgins, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025. She was a native of Newport News and the daughter of the late William and Rachel Cox. She attended Newport News High School and found purposeful work taking care of kids and animals. From working at the YMCA and taking care of preschoolers to her long tenure at Todd’s Lane Veterinary Hospital, Patricia devoted her life to nurturing others. After retirement, she devoted herself to seeing friends and family as often as possible and supporting her sons in any way she could. In her spare time, she loved tending to her plants, watching movies (particularly Jaws), and catching her soap operas in the afternoon, as well as treating her friends to a meal whenever possible.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronnie Charles Higgins, to whom she remained committed long after his passing. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Ronnie Charles Higgins II and William Luther Higgins, as well as her two older brothers, James Clifton Cox and Howard Glenn Cox; her daughter-in-law, Kim Walls; and her two grandchildren, Makayla Walls and Charles Higgins, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, life-long neighbors, and co-workers.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

The entire staff of our office is just so saddened by the sudden loss of your Mom. She was so well thought of that even Sybil, who is retired, has asked to be included in the condolences. When Pat called at the end of every month-as she was so organized like that-she would always be so happy that her ‘Buddy’ answered and would take care of her. She was a humble appreciative trusting soul. I am sure she is in heaven and reunited with her Husband, Ronnie. I never met him but in her total devotion she never let me forget him. If you knew Pat, you will understand that….Pat Higgins-We will miss you and have all said our prayers for you and your Loved ones left behind.
