Louis Edward “Buddy” Hoffman

Louis Edward “Buddy” Hoffman passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025. He was born on March 18, 1936 in Newport News, VA, and was a resident of Williamsburg Landing in Williamsburg, VA. A graduate of Hampton High School, he completed a five-year apprenticeship as a hydraulic designer at the Newport News Shipyard. He attained a B.S. in industrial engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg. After teaching advanced mathematics at the Shipyard’s Apprentice School, he co-founded and owned rental equipment stores and real estate across the Peninsula, moving to Williamsburg (Kingsmill) upon retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula; parents, Abe and Irene Hoffman; and twin sister, Adele “Sissy” Gall. He is survived by his two daughters, Ann Claire Phillips (Reese) and Hallie K. Hoffman, and sister, Joan Brown (David).

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fish, Inc. in Williamsburg or the Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
