Judith Warren Irving Gindhart, 71, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Born on February 3, 1954 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Laura Crostic Irving and Charles Prosser Irving.
Judy graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News, Virginia and James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. For 28 years she was dedicated to teaching young children in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
In addition to her teaching career, Judy was an active member of Providence United Methodist Church, Richmond, Virginia and Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, Midlothian, Virginia where she taught Sunday school and helped wherever she was needed. Her hobbies consisted of knitting, crocheting, arts and crafts, and traveling. She also enjoyed caring for her cats that she loved.
Judy was predeceased by her beloved daughters, Heather and Jennifer Gindhart, ex-husband Joseph Gerald Gindhart, and her parents.
Surviving are her brother, James Henderson Irving and his wife, Mary Sandifer Irving, of Staunton, Virginia; their sons and wives: James H. Irving II and Cathleen M. Irving, David S. Irving and Kara F. Irving. Other relatives include great nephews: Finnegan J. Irving, Jonathan B. Irving, and Elijah P. Irving and great nieces: Estee R. Irving, and Elisabeth L. Irving. Other survivors include an aunt, Betty Jane Crostic, her daughter Deborah Whittle-Smith of Florida, and other dear cousins.
Visitation will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, March 31, 2025 in the chapel at Peninsula Funeral Home, 1144 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, Virginia. The funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon, with Reverend Lynwood Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, Virginia at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Valley Mission, 1513 West Beverley Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
