Obituaries

Jean B. Nelms, 82, a resident of Fort Mill, SC, passed away November 3, 2024 at Atrium Hospital in Charlotte, NC due to complications from an ongoing illness. Jean was born in Tarboro, NC on July 21, 1942, to the late Claude and Mae Beach. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James L. Nelms, Jr.
Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, sibling, and friend. She cared for family members for five decades, all while working full-time and caring for her immediate family and home. Jean was a faithful member of Faith (Newport News, Va.) and Christ Ridge (Fort Mill, SC) Presbyterian churches for over 45 years.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Melissa Nelms of Fort Mill, SC; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Lee Fetter of Fort Mill, SC; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Julie Nelms of Charlotte, NC; her brother, Buddy Beach of Newport News; five grandchildren, Morgan, Jack, Cody, Kaylee, and Emmy; and one great-grandchild, Josephine.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 9th at 11 a.m. at Christ Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC. The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 14th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 15th at 2 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home followed by burial in Peninsula Memorial Park.
