Idalia Mercedes Ameijeiras Amor

Idalia Mercedes Ameijeiras Amor, 84, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 in Newport News, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 13, 1941, in Aguacate, Cuba. Idalia made Newport News her home for the past 60 years and was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.

Idalia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Israel and Celia Ameijeiras; her brother, Israel Ameijeiras; her husband, Dr. Ramon Amor; and her cherished son, Ramon Ignacio Amor.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jose (Freddy) Espinosa, and her daughter Celia Grinstead (Mike), and her son David Amor (Dawn), her daughter-in law Carla Amor (Warner) and ten treasured grandchildren; Christina Memmott (Brett), Krystal Andrus (Jon), Adam Amor (Tara), Alex Amor (Samantha), Lisa Macfarlane (Devin), Ramon Amor (Haylie), Michael Grinstead, Heather Grinstead, Christian Amor, Noah Amor and fifteen great grandchildren.

Idalia’s greatest love and passion was always her family. What mattered most to her was knowing that her loved ones were safe, happy, and healthy. Idalia worked as the office manager of the Breast Diagnostic Center in Newport News for many years. A woman of deep faith in Christ she lived her life with kindness, compassion and quiet strength. She had a heart for the underserved; volunteering for many years with Meals on Wheels, and working at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic church’s Outreached office.

Her legacy of love, faith, and giving, will live on with all who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, February 9th from 5pm-7pm at Peninsula Funeral home located at 11144 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, Virginia 23601. On Tuesday, February 10th at 11:30 am a catholic mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic church at 100 Harpersville road, Newport News, Virginia 23601. A graveside burial service at Peninsula Memorial Park will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
