Gregory A. Patterson, 73, went to Glory on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was a native of New Jersey but had been a Newport News resident for over 40 years. Greg served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a First Sergeant in Special Forces. He was a Ham radio operator and a member of the American Legion and the NRA. Greg loved gardening in his favorite “bibb” overalls and cooking and had a sarcastic sense of humor. He loved his pets completely and was an avid Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider for years.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Patterson, daughter, Christiana Patterson Schroth, and brother, John Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Deborah B. Patterson; son, John Patterson (Crystal); daughter, Angel Morrell (Michael); mother, Mary Jacqueline Patterson; grandchildren, Kyle (Carrie), Marina, Lauren (Jaysen), Tristian Schroth, Christina Arnold (Jerry), Trey Hall (Sarah), Jennifer Whalen, Amberlee Fouse (David) and Natale Senft; great-grandchildren, Christian Pendleton, Autumn Nagl and Mason Fouse; brother, Tom Patterson (Lynn); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Steven’s Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Richneck Road, Newport News, VA 23608, with Dr. Rev. Jay Russ officiating.
Greg’s journey on earth may have ended, but his legacy continues through the strength he demonstrated, the lives he touched, his love for his family and grandchildren, and the cherished memories held by his family and friends.

R.I.P Greg and may you be rejoicing in heaven. He and Tom Diggs rode Motorcycles together quite a few years ago. You will be remembered.
