Dorothy L. Portwood “Dot Lee” Ashburn, 94, of Wake, VA, passed away on March 24, 2025. She was a native of Hampton, VA, born on December 17, 1930. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1948 and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church for over 70 years.
She was preceded in rest by her husband, I. Walter “Pee Wee” Ashburn, Jr.; mother, Bertha Haynes Portwood; father, Oran M. Portwood; sisters, Edna Kelly and Annie May Portwood; grandson, Derek Atkins; son-in-law, Mark C. DeCuypere; and her in-laws, Walter and Daisy Hanna Ashburn, Virginia and Grover Collie, and Elvira and Russel Irby.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda D. Pelfrey (Mike); son, Kevin L. Ashburn (Jana); sister, Betty Wainwright (Bob); grandchildren, Diane Smith (Nathan), Laura Keatts (Adam), and Thomas L. Ashburn; great-grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Keatts, Mia, Daniel, Marissa, and Callie Smith, and Randolf and Lola Atkins; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Peninsula Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
