Delores Tessner McKinney, 84, of Hampton, was called home on Thursday, October 3, 2024 after a long illness. Born in Panther, WV, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer Lee McKinney, her parents, and four siblings.
Delores met her husband of 53 years when he offered her a ride home from church. He decided then and there he wanted to marry her. After moving to Hampton, Delores spent 17 years as a crossing guard and teacher’s aide at Hilton Elementary School. She was an active member of her church.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Delores is survived by her two children, eight grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 3 p.m. Reverend Benson M. Collett will officiate.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

Delores was a lovely lady and kind, compassionate person. She was an actively engaged team member, respected and appreciated by Hilton students, parents, and staff.
