Darren Robert Turner, Sr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darren Robert Turner, Sr., also affectionately known as Bobby by his family and friends. Bobby returned to the Lord on October17, 2024, at the age of 66.

Bobby was welcomed into the world by his parents Jesse Turner and Delores (Mitchell) Turner on September 16, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the couple’s first born and big brother to Darrell, Carmen, Tracey, and Tina. His childhood was full of adventures with exploring the city of Philadelphia on his bicycle with his younger brother and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his cousins as they all grew up as close as siblings. Bobby was also very artistic, passionate about art/drawing, assembling model toy cars and loved playing the bass guitar.

During his high school years, he moved to Westminster, California and was raised by his loving Uncle David Mitchell and Aunt Eloyce Mitchell. He was a member of the La Quinta High School football team and developed an interest in photography. He did eventually return to Philadelphia to complete his last year of high school and was reconnected with an old family friend, Millie Washington. They became high school sweethearts and were even pictured together in their Overbrook High School yearbook. After finishing high school, Bobby joined the Army Reserves in 1977 and later joined the United States Army 1978. He spent time at Fort Jackson, SC., Fort Hood, TX., Fort Rucker, AL., Fort Ord, CA., and was stationed in Korea for one year. He respectfully and honorably served his country from 1977-1984.

Bobby and Millie welcomed their first son, Darren in July 1978 and later married on September 21, 1979. The couple welcomed their daughter, Latesha in June 1980, their second son Timothy in November 1984, and their last child, Malik in September 1995.

Bobby considered himself to be an outdoor person and pursued employment that would not keep him indoors or sitting at a desk. From long distance truck driving to construction to electrical work, he excelled at working with his hands and made a great living by traveling to different states to work on various contracts.

Bobby had an infectious laugh and loved to be at the center of attention. And there was nothing that he loved more than his Philadelphia Eagles. He was a lifelong member of the ‘Bird Gang’ and had a treasure-trove of Eagles merchandise to prove it.

Bobby leaves behind his children Bro. Darren Turner-Bey, Latesha (Turner) Winfield (Brian Winfield), Tim Turner (Tatiana Turner), Malik Turner, and his grandchildren Miyale, Malachi, Christopher, Shiloh, and Adonis. He also leaves behind his father Jesse Turner, his sister Tracey (Turner) Poole (Charles Poole), his wife Millie (Washington) Turner (separated), his first cousin Ron ‘Nicky’ Parker (Deniece Parker) and brother-in-law Donald ‘Jay’ Jones, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Carmen, his brother Darrell Turner, his sister Evangelist Tina Turner-Jones, his favorite uncle David Mitchell, and adoring mother, Delores Turner.

The Memorial Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 2:00pm at Peninsula Funeral Home.
