Born and raised in Hampton, VA, Clarence was the son of John and Martha Breen. He often fondly remembered growing up with his nine remarkable brothers. Clarence graduated from Hampton High School before proudly serving as a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army. After his military career, he retired from NASA, marking a life dedicated to service and commitment.

Clarence deeply loved his large family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lois, and his children: David Breen (Deborah), Gary Breen (Karen), Terri Benson, and Michelle Esp (Kris). He was a proud grandfather to Heather Benson, Bryan Benson, Jessica Esp, Hunter Esp, Alexandra Esp, Andrew Breen, and Elise Breen, and a cherished great-grandfather to Emerson Cronk, Easton Cronk, Shai Esp, Amity Esp, and Ostara Esp. Known for his joyful whistle, harmonica playing, and songs for his grandchildren, Clarence brought music and laughter wherever he went. He had a lifelong passion for shooting and hunting, often sharing these experiences with his sons. An avid reader with a special love for history and nonfiction, Clarence was a master storyteller and a handy fixer of almost everything—much to his wife’s delight. His infectious laughter is a treasured memory held dear by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park on September 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at County Grill in Yorktown, VA, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
