Christine Mageras Georges, lovingly known as “Chrysoula” by those closest to her, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024. She was born in Richmond, Virginia, on March 25, 1940, shortly after her family immigrated from Karpenision, Greece. Christine spent most of her life in Newport News and Gloucester, Virginia, dedicated to her family and her church, Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sam Mageras (Anna) and Frank Mageras, and her sister Voula Koumbas (James).
Christine is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Bill Georges; daughter Angela Georges of Cary, North Carolina, and three grandchildren, Evan, Christina, and Sophia; daughter Dina DeVincentis of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and son-in-law Robert DeVincentis; sister Helen Elks of Chesapeake, Virginia, and brother-in-law Dennis Elks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was loved by everyone blessed to know her, and she will be deeply missed. Her greatest passion was cooking and baking for her family and friends, and her legacy of love, kindness, and good food will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
There will be a viewing from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Trisagion prayer service at 6:00 p.m., at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. A private funeral service will be held at Saints Constantine and Helen with Reverend George Chioros officiating, followed by interment at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
