Catherine H. Norman, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Norman; son, Kevin Wayne Norman; parents, Charlie Henry Hamlette and Dollie Florence Jennings Hamlette; brothers, Horace and Charlie Hamlette; and her great-grandson, Jaydon. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Staub (Alan); grandchildren Chris (Megan), Jennifer (Brian), and Ashley (Justin); great-grandchildren Collin, Kyrie, Noah, and Willow; and her siblings Gene (Charlotte) and LJ.
A native of Phenix, VA, Catherine moved to the Peninsula as a young adult, where she met her husband and love of her life, John. After taking root in Newport News, she became involved in her community through church, volunteering, and working with the youth in schools. Catherine enjoyed gardening, making art, and developing her relationship with Christ. A true woman of God, Catherine will be most remembered for her devotion to her faith and her love for her family. One of Catherine’s favorite scriptures was Proverbs 31:28.
Services will be held to celebrate Catherine’s life on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601. Visitation with the family starts at 10 a.m., followed by the service beginning at 12 p.m. After the burial service concludes, all attendees will be received at Carrollton Holiness Church for food and fellowship.
