Brian McCarter

Brian McCarter, age 69, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, with his family by his side after an extended battle with cancer. Born on August 28, 1955, in Queens, New York, Brian was the beloved son of Charles Edward McCarter and Rebecca Ann Hart McCarter.

Brian is survived by his treasured wife of 33 years, Kathryn Ann Berringer McCarter. They loved spending time with family, friends and neighbors; traveling extensively and spending time together; eating out and attending events; and creating countless memories over the years.

Brian leaves behind his beloved son Charles W. McCarter, his daughter-in-law Stacy McCarter, and his two cherished grandsons, Andrew McCarter and Evan McCarter. He is survived by his siblings, Edythe McCarter, James McCarter (Kathy), Rebecca Ochoa (Charles), and sister-in-law Lori McCarter. He is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews, one uncle, and a host of extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Edward McCarter; and two brothers Charles N. McCarter and Kevin J. McCarter (Lori).

A dedicated and hardworking man, Brian spent his career in the field of computer technology. His career began while serving in the U.S. Navy, followed by U.S. Government contract work for Honeywell, working at Newport News Shipbuilding, as a manager for the Connecticut National Bank, and as a vice-president for USAA.

Brian will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family and friends, his quick wit, his entertaining stories, and his predisposition to pursue adventures.

As we bid farewell to this well-loved soul, solace is taken in the memories we hold most dear: the time spent together, the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though Brian may no longer walk among us, his animated spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends; among the reflections of his many generous kindnesses, the strength and warmth of his caring embrace, and the light of his enduring love.

Visitation for Brian will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Peninsula Funeral Home and Crematory, 11144 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601. A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Charles McCarter following the visitation.

Memorial contributions in Brian’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org).

Brian was a friend and mentor; both of us dealing with cancer. He was a true inspiration to me. We spoke often on the phone sharing treatment war stories. We supported each other through trying times.
    Rest easy my friend.
