Annie Mae Oliver departed this life on October 28, 2024. She was born in Newport News, Va. on April 6, 1947, and was a resident of Newport News her entire life. A 1965 graduate of Warwick High School, Annie was employed for many years by the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant. She was a lifetime member of Temple Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Hope Bible Sunday School Class. Her church fellowship was important to her. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and often got together with her cousins for visits and events. She loved birds and enjoyed feeding and observing them. She was enthusiastic about holidays and found pleasure in decorating for Christmas and Easter. She is remembered as a sweet and caring person.
Annie’s parents, Patrick and Essie Mae Oliver, predeceased her. She is survived by her brother, Donald Oliver and his wife, Mary Sandy, of Poquoson, numerous cousins in the Richmond and Farmville areas, and special friends, including Barbara Morris of Newport News, a childhood friend for 70 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Temple Baptist Church, 235 Harpersville Road, Newport News at noon on Saturday, November 2, followed by interment at Peninsula Memorial Park on 12750, Warwick Blvd. in Newport News. Visitation and a fellowship lunch will take place prior to the service at 11 a.m. in the Church’s Social Hall. Peninsula Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
