Albert Cecil Shaw, Sr.

Albert Cecil Shaw, Sr., 86, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on January 15, 2026.

Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, Cecil lived a life marked by dedication to his faith, his work, and his community. He was a successful businessman and spent 18 years as the franchise owner of the Sears store in West Point, Virginia, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to customer service.

Cecil valued education and lifelong learning. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from Erskine College in South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration.

A man of deep faith, Cecil served as a deacon at Gospel Way Baptist Church, where he was a faithful and devoted member passionate about working with the special needs group. His service to the church reflected his steady character, integrity, and desire to help others.
An avid Tar Heel fan, Cecil followed the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill team and its players throughout his life. He was also an Elvis Presley fan and collected all his music, favoring Elvis’s gospel recordings. Among his many hobbies, Cecil particularly loved spending time in the yard with his grandchildren, teaching them about nature and Japanese red maples.

Cecil will be remembered as a hardworking, principled man who led by example in both his professional and personal life. His legacy of faith, leadership, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Henry Shaw and Lilian Dove-Shaw; his son, Albert Cecil Shaw, Jr.; his brother, Robert L. Shaw; and his sister, Elizabeth Livingston. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn Sue Shaw; his daughter, Angela Marie Long; and his grandsons, Edward George Long, Jr., and Dusty Shaw.

Flowers may be delivered to Gospel Way Baptist Church; memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Way Baptist Church Youth Ministry.

    Soo sorry to lose our very special Cecil! He and Sue were God’s gift to my special need grandson! Condolences to the family and know he’s with his son, Al and the angels!

    Always admired Cecil for his love of God and his faithful servant work at the church. He was great with the young special group he led with Sue. He will be missed by all. May God grant Sue and family His peace during this time.

    My dad was a great man and I admired him very much. He was devoted to his family and his church.He was very hard working and principled.He taught me to work hard, and pray to the lord for guidance.I don’t think he ever said a bad word.
