Willie Emory “Bud” D’Bene
Willie Emory “Bud” D’Bene, 87, sadly passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce G. D’Bene; two children, daughter Kathy Lewark (Mike) and son, Keith D’Bene (Rhonda); four grandchildren, Chelsea Hall (TJ), Ryan Sweeney (Loryn), Lauren Rolander (Brian), and Lee D’Bene (Allie); and seven great-grandchildren who were the love of his life, Emersyn Hall, Tenley Hall, Brayden Rolander, Blake Rolander, Brielle Rolander, Cameron Sweeney and Eli Sweeney.
Bud graduated from Newport News High School. After high school, he worked at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Sheet Metal Department, from which he retired and later retiring from Bayport Credit Union.
Bud was a long-time member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, serving in so many jobs including President of the Methodist Men’s Club, Leadership Board, and a special Sunday School teacher. He always had a smile on his face and loved welcoming people into the church. After the closing of Aldersgate Church, Bud and his wife Joyce found Wesley United Methodist Church which they love so very much.
Bud was a member and Past Master of Bremond Masonic Lodge No. 241 AF& AM where he recently received his 50-year pin. He was also a dear fan of the New York Yankees from the time when he was a little boy.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service, officiated by Pastor Gretchen Nelson, following at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bud’s name to Wesley United Methodist Church, 2510 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666-1506.
