Our precious mother, Virginia Oriel Paragas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the age of 85. Virginia was born in Tayug, Pangasinan, Philippines, on November 25, 1938, to the late Paulino and Macaria Ruiz Oriel.

Her husband Abelardo Paragas, brother Paulino Oriel, Jr, and sister Gloria Oriel Platon preceded her in rest.

Virginia is survived by her siblings, Estrella Oriel, Oscar Oriel, and Liberty Oriel Charles. She was a devoted mother and mother-in-love to Derick and Annie Paragas, Chris and Lori Paragas, Melody Paragas and Ford Cook, Rena Paragas and Sun Park, DeeDee Paragas and Gary Lott. She was a loving grandma to Brandon, Travis, Riley, and Derek Cook (Medy); Matthew and Patrick Paragas (Derick); Spencer and Parker Paragas (Chris); and Aubrey and Guy Lott (DeeDee); and proud great-grandmother to Benjamin and Lorraine Cook (Travis).

Virginia was a devoted Catholic and tireless supporter of her Filipino and religious community. She was formerly a teacher, real estate agent, and insurance agent. Virginia loved singing, dancing, cooking, and traveling. But what Virginia loved most was gathering her family together for holidays and all occasions. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, beauty, warm smile, and ability to befriend anyone anywhere.

I am so sorry to hear of your dear mother’s passing. As time goes on we become more like our parents it seems, and she was a fine example of strength, beauty and love for her family. Wishing you peace in this difficult time.

We are deeply saddened with the loss of Sis. Virgie. We offer this prayer: O Lord, you promised that whoever believes in you, even if she dies, will have life everlasting. May this sacred promise comfort us in our sadness and bring the soul of your departed servant, Virgie Paragas, to the fullness of the reward you have for us. O Savior of the world, reassure us in our belief that death is not an end to life, but rather the door through which we enter your Kingdom of perfect peace and joy in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Father, may the soul of Virgie, and all the souls of faithful departed through the mercy of God enter your heavenly paradise, that they may have eternal rest, through Christ our Lord, Amen.
