Tony Franklin Vecchio, Sr., 86, passed away on February 11, 2021. He was a native of Shinnston, WV and a resident of Hampton for 51 years. Tony began his military career in the U.S. Navy and completed his service in the U.S. Air Force, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He later retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a security guard after 23 years. He was of the Christian faith.

Tony was preceded in death by twin daughters, Niwana and Wanda Vecchio; parents, Tony and Opal Vecchio; brothers, Junior, Jimmy and Bill; and sisters, Betty and Naomi. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dorothy K. Vecchio of Hampton; sons, Tony F. Vecchio, Jr. and Mark A. Vecchio; daughters, Connie Smith and Niwana Vecchio Jenkins; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell Morris; sister, Sadie Dellinger; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., in Newport News. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
