Catherine Davis “Sue” Pinkston (nee Lillie Catherine Davis), beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, one day before her 96th birthday.

A Hampton Roads resident since 1950, she was born in Edgecombe County, NC on December 9, 1926. Her devoted husband of almost 66 years, John W. “Jay” Pinkston, Jr., pre-deceased her.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Pinkston Gillikin, and her husband, John Mettrew Gillikin, of Hernando, FL; son, John Wayne Pinkston, and his wife, Vickie Saunders Pinkston, of Chesapeake, VA; and daughter, Catherine Pinkston Lohwater and her husband, Karl Willem Lohwater, of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Ginny Sue Gillikin of Raleigh, NC, Shannon Gillikin Colton and Paul Colton of Florida; Victoria Paige Pinkston of Columbia, SC, John Andrew Pinkston of Berwyn, IL, Jamie Leigh Lohwater of Lillington, NC, and Alex John Lohwater of Williamsburg, VA; and her great-grandchildren, Lex Colton of London, England, and Lia Colton of New York City, NY.

Sue was an avid homemaker for many of her years, adept at many things including cooking, furniture restoral, drapery making, sewing, painting, and gardening. She worked many years at the Ball Corporation in Williamsburg, VA. She was also a longtime member of Hilton Baptist Church and Orcutt Baptist Church.
Sue’s beautiful smile, welcoming nature, generosity, kindness, and sense of humor will be greatly missed. She will live in our hearts forever.

A private burial will be held later this month.
