Socorro Miller passed away at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the age of 101.  She was a native of Jalisco, Mexico, and had been a Newport News resident for the past 15 years.  She was Catholic by faith and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.

Socorro loved spending time with her family and friends.  She had so much wit and wisdom and her good humor touched everyone’s hearts.

Socorro was the mother of invention, when a problem arose, she always found a solution.  She enjoyed looking at beautiful minerals, flowers or watching little birds outside at the feeder.  She’d seen a lot in her 101 years, but she was a strong, very brave woman and she never gave up.

Socorro was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leonce Miller, Jr., and her oldest daughter, Jamila Miller.  She is survived by her daughter, Yolanda Miller, and son, Leonce Wayland Miller, III.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.  Inurement will take place in the church columbarium.
