Russell “Gay” Settles
Russell “Gay” Settles, 92, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Chesterfield, VA. She was a native of Hampton, VA, for most of her life.
Gay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Ernest Settles; parents, James and Blanche Stepp; along with all her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Ernest Lee Settles (Judy) and Dennis F. Settles (Trudy); grandchildren, Jennifer Matragrano (Stephen), Nicole Whitney (Richie), Stephanie Prather (Rob), Mindy Wade (Stephen) and Ashley Bess (Justin); and great-grandchildren, Katey Bullock (Caleb), Brandon Blassman (Holly), Lexie Wade, Noah Whitney, Kaylee Wade, Danielle Matragrano, Jackson Bess, and Elijah Bess.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Gil Prevett.

Gay was my darling neighbor and friend. I will dearly miss our phone conversations. She was one of the kindest people I ever met.
I was just told today of Gay’s passing. I am so sorry Ernie & Denny. I’m Bill’s youngest daughter and I loved when Ernest & Gay came to Roanoke to visit grandma. You both are in my prayers.
