Roy Alexander Bennington, Sr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Riverside Hospital.  He was a native of Rockbridge County, Virginia, and a resident of Newport News for fifty-six years.  Roy was a Nuclear Materials Handler for Newport News Shipbuilding and retired from the shipyard after thirty-five years.

Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Madeline Bennington, wife, Patricia Louise Morris Bennington; granddaughter, Isabella Alexis Bennington; and sisters, Joyce Bennington and Jean Rea.  He is survived by his daughter, Robin L. Bennington Ellis (Christopher); son, Roy A. Bennington, Jr. (Mia); and two granddaughters, Karissa S. Ellis and Courtney L. Ellis.

A graveside service, officiated by Pastor David Willis, will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.
