Ronald R. Joos
Ronald R. Joos, 80, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at home on December 4, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 27, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Albert Joseph and Virginia Ada (Neely) Joos. He spent his childhood in Owensville and Gerald, Missouri, graduating from Owensville High School in 1959. He was the youngest of three sons and brother to Robert and Richard. He attended Southeast Missouri State University for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in April 1960. It was during his military service that he met his lifelong friend Joe Koester and his future brother-in-law Ronald Reagan. After four years in the military, he left to pursue other interests in government service. Ron received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland in 1976. In 2013, Ron was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He lived his last five years under the loving care of his eldest son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Karen.
On August 1, 1964, he married the love of his life, Sharon Arleen (Reagan) in Lemay, St. Louis, Missouri. They raised two sons, Brian and Craig. He was a dedicated family man and driven to improve himself and to provide for his family, always taking time to attend his son’s activities.
Ron retired from the National Security Agency as a Senior Analyst after 35 years of service. Both his military service and his work at NSA afforded him the opportunity to travel all over the world. Even getting to spend four wonderful years with his family in Berlin, Germany. where he loved to travel. Ron loved to learn about new cultures and to travel around Europe, even visiting the small town from where his family emigrated. He also took his family camping and even learned to ski in the Alps. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed camping, traveling, taking cruises, and stain glass work. He was active in community associations wherever he lived.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon A. Joos; parents; and his eldest brother, Robert N. Joos. He is survived by his sons, Brian D. Joos (Karen) and Craig A. Joos (Glenda); grandchildren; Clinton T. Shepherd, Jacob A. Shepherd, Gracelyn S. Joos, Craig Daniel Joos, and Marshall A. Joos; brother, Richard A. Joos; nieces, Allison Ralston (Joos) and Stephanie Knight (Reagan); and numerous other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on March 12, 2022 at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5239 West Florissant Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63115.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
