Robert Warren Carr, Major, U. S. Army Retired

Robert W. Carr, Major, U.S. Army Retired, passed away on April 12, 2021 in St. Petersburg, Florida. A native of Portland, ME, he had been a Hampton resident since 1966 until 2003 when he became a resident of St. Petersburg, FL. Mr. Carr retired from the U.S. Army after 23 ½ years of service. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service in Vietnam. He also served overseas in Germany, France, Japan, and Thailand. He retired in 1991 as Director of Finance for the City of Newport News after serving 19 ½ years.

Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his first wife, Johanna M. Carr and wife, Shirley T. Carr. He is survived by his son, Klaus D. Carr of Summerdale, AL; daughters, Loretta J. Toothaker (Leslie) of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Joanne R. Johnson of Poquoson, and Patricia A. Hendricks (John) of Greentown, IN; grandchildren, Tammy Morton (Greg), Jason Slaughter (Crystal), Amber Kughen (Michael), Heather Carr, and Cory Hendricks; and great-grandchildren, Patrick, Cecily, and Rosina Slaughter.

A graveside service officiated by Pastor Wes Taylor will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Peninsula Memorial Park, with military honors. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
