It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Robert Donald Baker, known to all as Donnie. He passed away peacefully on September 29 after several weeks of medical challenges. Donnie maintained his fighting spirit and positive attitude to the end. 

He is preceded in death by his brother, Joe Baker. 

Donnie is survived by his sons Robert and Dan, daughter-in-law Bobbi, and grandsons Will and Harrison. He is also survived by his four sisters, Anne and her husband Lowell, Jeanie, Etta, and Thelma.

Donnie was a lifelong resident of Newport News and a graduate of the 1961 class of Newport News High School. He retired after a long career with the Newport News Waterworks Department. He spent his retirement years with family and friends and is remembered by countless people he encountered. He never met a stranger and selflessly helped anyone in need whose path he crossed.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
