Richard “Dickie” W. Calfee
Richard “Dickie” W. Calfee, 79, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022. He was a native of the Peninsula and resided in Newport News. Dickie retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding as a Designer and was a graduate of Hampton High School in 1961.
He is survived by his son Bryan Calfee, granddaughter Kaydence Calfee and sister Terri Calfee Dawson.
In following Dickies wishes, there will be no public service.

Dickie was the love of my life and the father of our son! I was with him for the last 6 months trying to help and make him comfortable! I will miss our talks and taking him to the little gym to ride a bike at the Hunnington. Until he got so bad off. He had a brain tumor! He did well for 6 months. You will be missed by many. Wish you could have been here longer to see your grandaughter grow up. She is only 2. I know you are peace now with the angels and all the family members. RIP and I will see you again. ❤️❤️
Bryan and Bev, we are very sorry for your loss. Dickie was a quiet soul and a great neighbor, for over 40 years. Though you are sorrowful, remember, Monday, God’s angels lifted him to a painless heaven, where he can now look smilingly upon his loved ones.
I worked with Dickie back in the 80’s in the SSN688 Submarine Design Program at Newport News Shipbuilding. Dickie was quiet, smart, a go to person and treated everyone kindly. A person you could well respect and set the example. My heart goes out to your family because they lost a good person today. But, Dickie’s legend will remain. My deepest Condolences ! -Flo
So sad to learn that Dickie has passed away. I worked with him in Carrier Overhaul Engineering for several years. He was a great guy to work with and will be greatly missed.
My condolences go out to Bev and the rest of Dickie’s family. I enjoyed the many softball and basketball games we participated in together on various teams throughout the years and the fun times after the games at the Hilton Country Club and the Rusty Nail. He was such a pleasant soul and would always greet you with a smile. Rest In Peace my friend until we meet again in a better place.

So sorry to read about Dickie’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.
Dickie was a special friend to many, because he was so pleasant to be with in sports, at work, socially. A fine man who will be sorely missed.
Dickie was always the nicest of gentlemen, kind and gentle. I will miss knowing he is no longer with us.
I knew Dickie since his early twenties. He was always cool and laid back and a good friend. We’v lost a good one. Deep condolences to his family.
Bev and family, so sorry for your loss and I pray for your highest and best in the coming days. Whenever we would run into each other, out and about or recently at grocery shopping at Food Lion, wow, times change, it was always fun visiting with Dickie. He was a good friend.

I’m so sorry for your family loss. Dickie was a great guy. I had the pleasure of working with him in Carrier Overhaul for 10 plus years. Dickie was a great friend, easy spoken and very knowledgeable. He will be sorely missed.
I met Dickie in1959 when he was playing on the HHS basketball team and I was on the JV team. Both teams road the bus together and he was always so welcome to everyone (varsity or JV). Several years ago we became neighbors and he always had a kind word. He will be missed by many. It is strange because my wife, Elizabeth, passed away two days before Dickie.
