Redia A. McLamb

Redia Anne McLamb peacefully departed this world to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, at Norfolk Heart Hospital. She was an incredible and strong woman who always cared for those around her.

Redia was born February 26th, 1950, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Edith (Conley) and William “Riley” Casebolt.  She moved to Virginia with her parents, where she grew up in Hampton, and graduated from Hampton High School in 1968.

At 16, she met the love of her life, Larry B. Mclamb, whom she married on December 7th, 1968. The two cherished over 50 years of life together, raising two sons and a daughter. Redia later became “GiGi” one day before her birthday on February 25th, 2021.

As a young military wife, Redia found a passion for baking and decorating cakes. She quickly became the go-to person for making cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special occasions. Redia also enjoyed cooking. She and Larry frequently spent time in the kitchen creating delicious meals. During the holidays, they would prepare elaborate feasts that everyone looked forward to each year.

In May 1989, she began working for the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, “HNNCSB.” While there, she made many life-long friends and truly enjoyed helping those in the community. She retired as an Office Manager in June 2015 after 26 years of hard work and dedication.

Redia was a deeply caring person who would help anyone in need. Everyone around her could feel the warmth of her genuine heart and gentle soul. She could see the best in anyone and treated everyone with love and compassion. She always had a smile on her face and a compassionate heart – even through the ups and downs of life. Redia was truly an angel on earth and touched many.

Redia was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Larry B. Mclamb; her father and mother, Bill and Edith Casebolt; and her sister, Melissa Casebolt Williams.

Redia is survived by her sons, Stacey D. McLamb (Lisa) and Anthony “Ryan” McLamb (Kim); her daughter Gabriell McCracken (Phil); two grandsons, Marius McCracken and Ryan Gary; and a granddaughter, Rachel Gary.

She also leaves behind a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family and friends who will miss her dearly. XOXO, until we see you again.

A celebration of life will be held at Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Blvd. and Jefferson Blvd., Newport News on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.

Redia was such a dear cousin, whom I always enjoyed being with when she visited Ky, while we were growing up. Uncle Bill and my father French, were brothers. Redia was always fun and laughed a lot! One of the kindest and sweetest people I knew. I’m just so sorry for her health issues and for her passing, leaving a hole in the hearts of so many. Unfortunately, I hadn’t been able to visit with her in such a long time, last time being when Aunt Jessie passed away. My prayers are with you, Stacy, Ryan and Gabby, as well as all of her family and friends. God’s Blessings to you all. Love, Marcy Casebolt Culbreth.

I’ve known Redia since 1968 when Larry and my first husband, Bill were in Vietnam together. There were five of us of us girls,
Donna Lance, Diana Loudermilk, Sharon Smith, Redia and me, Janice Gallimore (at the time) who supported each other during hard times. We would have picnics, go to the movies, horseback riding, the beach and we always laughed a lot. I’m so thankful for being friends with Redia and was blessed to have her in my life. Her memorial service was a tribute to such a special lady she was, always smiling, laughing and baking. Redia will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Thank you, God, for sharing Redia with me. Prayers to the family. Redia would be proud of her homegoing service. You did good.
