Nancy S. Armstrong, age 87, of Newport News, passed away peacefully on July 13.  Born Nancy Sophia Xiftros, Nancy, or “Nina” as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the daughter of Andros Xiftros.  She is survived by her son John R. “Bobby” Armstrong and his wife Susan, son Michael P. Armstrong and his wife Jennifer, grandchildren Andy Armstrong, Kate Smith (Todd), and Liz Beier (Daniel), great-grandchildren Abby, Leslie, and Caroline Armstrong, Laura Ann and Matthew Beier, and Alex Smith. 

Nancy is also survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert W. “Bob” Armstrong, whose selfless devotion, love and care sustained her not only during her final days, but for the duration of their relationship that began when they were students together at Newport News High School in the late 1940s.  Nina found joy in her family, her home, and her kitchen, where her love for food and her skill as a cook brought joy to generations of family and visitors; and in front of slot machines where, just as in her life, luck greeted her frequently.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Mennowood Retirement Community and Riverside Hospice for their loving care.
