Marianne passed away peacefully on March 14, 2021 at 87 years of age. Marianne was Secretary of Tidewater German American Society from 1984-1999 and also served as the Chairwoman of the Frauenklub within TGAS until recent years. The ladies of the Frauenklub were like sisters to her for over 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose A. Rodriguez; her parents, Heinrich Schiffer and Sybilla Freund; and brothers, Lothar Schiffer, Gunter Schiffer, and Heinz Schiffer (one week prior), and her nephew Daniel Schreiber.

Survivors include her sister, Linda Schreiber; her nephews and nieces Andreas Schiffer, Thorsten Schiffer, and Lana Schreiber; her two sons, Steven W. Thomas, and Donald C. Thomas; her five daughters, Linda Thomas Morin, Karen Thomas Farmer, Kimberly S. Rodriguez, Kristina Rodriguez Cifers, and Lisa Rodriguez Dunn; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Although Marianne’s immediate family resides here on the east coast, her love for her family in Germany ran very deep. She spoke of them often and loved them all dearly.

Interment will be private at a later date. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
