Loretta Jean Conley

Loretta “Jean” Conley, 88, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

She was born on November 25, 1935, to Virgil and Evelyn Hudgel in Lebanon, Ohio, and has been a peninsula resident since 1960.

Pete and Jean loved to travel. A few of the many places they visited were the Holy Land, Belgium, Germany, and 49 of the United States. Prior to her retirement, Jean worked as a hairdresser for over 30 years.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Haskel “Pete” Conley, who passed away on November 26, 2009, and her sister, Phyllis Stillings.

Survivors include her children, Renee’ Todd (Gary) of Newport News and Charles Conley (Jan) of Seaford; grandchildren, Mike Conley (Andrea), Ashley Yavorsky (Steve) and Chris Conley (Krystle); great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Conley, Austin Conley, Grayson Conley, Josephine Yavorsky and Sutton Yavorsky; brothers, Charles Hudgel (Bev) and Tom Hudgel. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Francis Conley (Bea) and Jessie Conley (Carolyn), and many loving nieces and nephews. Jean loved her family dearly.

Jean loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church for 35 years. She was a member of the Nelms-Walker Sunday School Class, Chestnut Methodist Women (UMW), and Chestnut Chicks Red Hatters. She worked tirelessly in many areas of the church, including Vacation Bible School, Bake Sales/Fall Festival, and the Bereavement Committee.

A service celebrating Jean’s life will be held at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., with Reverend Ken Walco and Reverend Jim Weston officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at Peninsula Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 3-5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601.

    Jean was so thoughtful and compassionate to everyone she met! You will be truly missed by so many at Chestnut Memorial and in our women’s group! God has a new angel and we love you! Your love shows through your children!
