Lewis Wayne Boyd
Lewis Wayne Boyd, 80, of Newport News, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Wayne was born on November 7, 1943, to Archie and Thelma Boyd in Newport News. He spent his early life in Pelham, NC, where he graduated from Ruffin High School in 1962 and received his Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech in 1966. He was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding for 36 years. After retirement, he worked at NNPS as a bus driver for five years. Wayne served in the Virginia Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972.
Wayne enjoyed gardening and loved sharing his vegetables, especially tomatoes, with friends and neighbors. He also never met a sudoku puzzle he couldn’t solve, eventually.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leota (Reid) Boyd; his two children – Jennifer Brodie (Chris), and Patrick Boyd; and his six beloved grandchildren, Jillian (22), Holden (18), Patch (14) Brodie and Seth (19), Daniel (18), and Reid (13) Boyd. He is also survived by his two siblings, Phil Boyd (Donna) of Danville, VA, and Cindy Strader (Larry) of Ruffin, NC.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends on March 1, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park. A reception will follow immediately in Payne Hall at First Baptist Church in Newport News, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
