Larry Stewart Moran

Larry Stewart Moran, 78, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Peninsula Funeral Home between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Larry was born in Danville, Virginia, to Bruce and Stella Moran on October 3, 1945.  He grew up in Hampton Roads, graduating from both Newport News High School and Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School.  This led to Larry’s long, successful career with Newport News Shipbuilding, specializing in the nuclear field.  His job took him west to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he and his family resided and worked for several years.  Upon retiring from the shipyard, he returned to Idaho Falls and started a company specializing in residential home construction.

He enjoyed many things in life, including family, friends, traveling, sports cars (mainly Corvettes), motorcycles, sports, and work, just to name a few.

Larry was married to his high school sweetheart, Phoebe Randolph, in Hampton, Virginia, for 22 years, and they had three children together. Upon his return to Idaho, Larry met and married Debra Martin Ellis of Idaho Falls. They were together for 20 years until her death on December 17, 2023.

He is survived by his brothers Kenneth Moran of West Point, Virginia, and Kevin Moran of Danville, Virginia; sons Michael Moran and wife Lee of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Marty Moran of Yorktown, Virginia; daughter Stephanie Salmon and husband Jason of Suffolk, Virginia; five grandchildren, Phoebe, Jack, Cameron, Brittany, and JJ; and one great-grandchild, Bryan a/k/a Little Man.

Larry was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Bruce Moran and Geraldine; Mother, Stella Waters; wife, Debra Moran; and dog and faithful sidekick, Max.

In Larry’s honor, memorial donations can be made to the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School Foundation: The Apprentice School Foundation (tasfd.org).

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
