Larry J. Poole, Sr. passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Dominion village Memory Care in Poquoson. He was born on September 21, 1937, in Raleigh, NC, but grew up in Newport News, VA. Larry retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, the U.S. Army Reserves, and Action Mobile Locksmith which he owned. After his retirement, he spent ten years traveling in his motorhome with his wife and many friends – and being a snowbird.

He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church for 70 years and was a deacon and active member of many church committees. Larry was a member of the Monitor Masonic Lodge for 52 years and several camping clubs.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Christine Poole; and daughter-in-law, Patty Poole.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley; son, Larry J. Poole, Jr.; sisters, Brenda Poole and Janice Mallory (Wayne); two granddaughters, Daisy Poole and Shannon Jones (Rusty); one great-granddaughter, Harmoney Poole and one great-grandson, Brian Jones.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
