Konstantinos Polyzos

Konstantinos (Gus) Polyzos, after an extraordinary 95 years of life, passed away with his family by his side, Monday August 26, 2024. Gus, a native of Greece, came to the United States in 1969. He was born on April 3rd, 1929, in Fyllon Karditsta, Greece. Gus came to the United States to pursue the American Dream for his family. In 1971, he and his two brothers of Newport News, Van and Mel, opened the popular Greek-Italian restaurant known as Vancostas in Hampton and Newport News.
 
Gus is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Sevasti. He was preceded in death by two brothers Van Polyson of Newport News and Spyro Polyzos of Fyllon Karditsa, Greece. He is survived by his brother of Newport News, Mel (Francis) Polizos.
 
His memory will be eternal as he is survived by his two sons, Athanasios (Anthony) and George (Jenny). Both sons worked side by side with him and their mother Sevasti in the restaurant, where he taught them the importance of integrity, hard work, and the dedication that is necessary to become successful entrepreneurs. He was very proud of all that his sons have accomplished.
 
Gus was very proud of his five grandchildren and loved each of them dearly, Mariah Sevasti, Alexis Marie, Kostas Thano, Jorge Konstantinos II (Jorgie), and Calista Lola. He always loved watching the children Greek dance and attending their dance competitions since the time they were little, as well as attending sporting events to cheer them on. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he treasured spending every minute with them.
 
The Trisagion service will be held Tuesday, September 3, at 7pm at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. A funeral service will be held at the church Wednesday, September 4, at 11:30 am, with burial immediately following at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.
